Terms of Service

Last updated: September 15, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using DEBATED ("the Platform"), you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

2. Description of Service

DEBATED is an AI-powered debate practice and learning platform that enables users to:

  • Practice debating against AI opponents and in live debates with other users
  • Access a library of debate topics, an argument builder, and a case builder
  • Receive AI-generated feedback, scoring, and analytics on debate performance
  • Participate in classes, teams, tournaments, and leaderboards
  • Use additional practice tools such as cross-examination training, an opponent simulator, a judge simulator, and speech analytics

3. Accounts

3.1 Account Creation

To access certain features, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep it updated.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for safeguarding your credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. We may send security notifications when important account changes occur (for example, email or password changes).

3.3 Email Verification

Certain account changes (such as changing your email address) require verification. A verification code is sent to the new email address and the change only takes effect after successful verification and, where the platform supports it, after the login email is actually updated. Until verification and any required platform update are complete, the existing email remains the verified login email on your account. In some cases the platform may not be able to change the built-in login email automatically; in that case the new address is recorded as pending and you may need to contact support to complete the change.

3.4 Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or applicable law, or for fraudulent, illegal, or abusive behavior. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings.

4. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any illegal purpose or in violation of any law
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, or harm other users
  • Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent content
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Platform or other users' accounts
  • Use automated systems to access the Platform without permission
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's operation
  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your affiliation

5. User-Generated Content and Debates

You retain ownership of content you create on the Platform (debate arguments, notes, transcripts you save, etc.). By using the Platform, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display your content solely to operate and improve the Platform. You are responsible for ensuring your content does not violate these Terms or any third-party rights.

6. AI Functionality and Feedback Limitations

The Platform uses artificial intelligence to generate debate responses, feedback, scores, and analysis. AI-generated content may contain errors, biases, or inaccuracies. You should:

  • Verify important information from reliable sources
  • Use AI feedback as a learning aid, not as authoritative fact
  • Exercise critical thinking when evaluating AI-generated arguments or scores

AI feedback is provided "as is" and should not be relied upon as professional advice.

7. Subscription Plans and Billing

7.1 Plans

DEBATED offers a Free plan, a Premium plan, a White Label plan, and an Enterprise plan. Features, limits, and pricing for each plan are displayed on the Pricing page and may change with reasonable notice.

7.2 Free Plan

The Free plan is available at no cost with limited features. No payment method is required to use the Free plan.

7.3 Premium Subscription

Premium is a paid subscription that renews automatically on a recurring billing cycle (monthly or annually) until cancelled. When you subscribe, you authorize us (or our payment provider) to charge your payment method for each billing period.

7.4 Subscription Renewal and Cancellation

Paid subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We will send a renewal reminder before a paid subscription renews.

7.5 Failed Payments

If a renewal payment fails, we may retry or notify you to update your payment method. Continued failure may result in loss of paid access.

7.6 Plan Changes and Price Changes

You may upgrade or downgrade your plan. Changes take effect according to the billing rules described on the Platform. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable advance notice; existing subscribers are notified before any change takes effect.

7.7 Refunds

Refunds, where applicable, are handled according to the rules of the applicable payment provider and local law. We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods except where required by law.

8. Promotional Codes and Free Periods

DEBATED may offer promotional codes that grant benefits such as a limited period of free Premium access, percentage discounts, or fixed discounts. Promotional codes that grant free Premium access do not require a payment method, and redeeming such a code does not authorize any charge. A promotional or free period ends automatically when it expires, after which the account returns to the Free plan unless you have separately subscribed and authorized payment. We do not automatically charge you when a promotional period ends.

9. White Label and Enterprise

9.1 White Label

The White Label plan lets an organization run a branded version of the Platform, including custom branding, a custom domain or subdomain, and user management, for a recurring fee. White Label is governed by these Terms together with any separate White Label arrangement.

9.2 Enterprise

Enterprise is the highest-tier plan for large institutions, offering the features included in White Label plus additional customization and support. Enterprise terms are agreed on a case-by-case basis.

10. Administrative Actions

DEBATED administrators may take actions on accounts, including changing a plan, changing account status (such as suspension), or changing permissions. Where these actions affect your account, you will receive a notification explaining what changed. These actions are recorded internally for audit and safety purposes.

11. Notification Preferences

You can manage certain email notification preferences from Settings → Notifications. Security, payment, and subscription-change emails are always enabled and cannot be disabled. Optional product and marketing emails respect your preferences.

12. Intellectual Property

All Platform content, including text, graphics, logos, software, and the DEBATED brand, is the property of DEBATED or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. The DEBATED logo is not modified by per-plan color identities shown on the Platform.

13. Platform Availability

We strive to keep the Platform available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

14. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DEBATED SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless DEBATED from claims, damages, and expenses arising out of your use of the Platform or violation of these Terms.

16. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes via email or through the Platform. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

17. Contact and Support

For questions about these Terms, or to contact support, use the in-app contact option or email contact@getdebated.com.
